Man dies of rare rabies after being bitten by a dog in Haiti

An unidentified Broward County man died from a rarely seen strain of rabies last year after being bitten by a dog in Haiti, in a case that mystified experts for four days, according to a report issued Thursday.

Doctors and specialists thought the man's illness in February 2004 was malaria or a psychiatric problem until his wife recalled the dog bite eight months earlier, the Broward County Health Department said in its study, published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. read more...
